Firm

Firm: What does it mean to be firm? Firm in what exactly? How long does it take to be firm? Are we talking about having a firm tone butt? No, we are not. Are we talking about having a firm tummy? Gosh, I wish I had a firm tummy or a 6 pack. By the way, how long does it take to have 6 pack abs? Does it really work? Twenty minutes a day, six minutes a day, the time the just keeps getting shorter and shorter. While I may not have a firm tummy or rock-hard abs in twenty to six minutes, one thing I am firm on is my belief in Jesus Christ. My belief that things happen for a reason by God’s plan.

I have slowly become a firm believer that God one has a sense of humor, two molds us daily, and three wants us to spend a quality amount of time with him daily. Let me explain a little bit about what I mean.

Recently, I was denied rather disqualified at work for a promotion. It hurt, it stung, it made me upset, but it also opened my eyes to God’s way of doing things. See at work we have to have a certain amount of time in order to go for promotions. Two years ago, I was eligible to go for my current job. However, on the day of testing I had my girls, who needed to get to school, and I was waiting on my mom to come get them. I left my place a little later than I wanted and as a result showed up two minutes late for the testing. Therefore, I was disqualified from the process. The next year I made sure I was there on time and ready to go. I was subsequently promoted to my current rank/position. Now this year I was eligible for a higher position, one with more leadership and authority. Unfortunately, I failed to fill out the application correctly. My fault. Lesson learned. But the beauty of all of this is, maybe in God’s eyes and in God’s plan I am not ready for such a position. He says, “Not yet Alec, your time will come”, or “I have other things for you to accomplish first before this”. I truly believe that this is the case. I am not ready yet. He still has molding to do. I still have a pursuant heart to give to him.

This is no doubt in my mind a result of all the daily effort I have been putting in to improve myself. The sacrifices that are unknown to many. The daily walks and talks with God. Daily prayer. Daily devotion. And so how is this like an abdominal workout? Well, there is no set number of minutes a day required to have a relationship with God. All he asks is a daily walk. Not just once a day is required either. Being in continual relation with God is important for wholehearted wholesome relationship with God. There could be days where just a checkup of 6 minutes will do, while others require the full 20, or you could really be needing him and before you know it an hour or two have passed. Either way, I urge everyone if you haven’t found God to do so. He has healed me from the inside out. He has made me laugh at his humor, cry for his mercy, praise him in his goodness.
